About The Maker
Let me introduce myself, I am Tianna Summer Markowski, the artist behind the work you see. I grew up in Dryden,
Northwestern Ontario, where my love of the natural environment started. I became interested in built environments at a young age which led me to pursue my undergraduate degree in Environmental Design, majoring in Architecture. Having completed my degree in 2019 I enrolled in pottery classes as a creative outlet and I haven't looked back.
Pottery to me is a combination of art and function, much like architecture. My inspiration stems from all the different parts of me. Creating with clay allows me to shape items out of the natural elements that are a part of me; earth, water and fire. Creating provides me with a sense of calm and peace amongst the fast paced world.
The origin behind the name Summer Solstice Co. is a combination of 2 factors. Summer being my middle name provides a personal connection to my pieces. Secondly is summer solstice being the longest day of the year. To me this represents maximum sunshine and a shift of my nature. With the season change I better embrace the natural environment and slow down. Intuitively, I felt this name resonated best with who I am.
